Tommy Knight was born in Chatham, Kent and became interested in acting
from a young age. He made his West End debut in 2001 with a production
of Medea, and earned his first television credit the following
year on TV To Go. Knight was soon appearing in shows like
Casualty, The Impressionists, The Bill and
Doctors. He was then cast as Luke Smith in Invasion Of The Bane, the 2007
pilot episode for the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane
Adventures. Knight appeared in all five seasons of the show,
although his character was gradually seen less frequently to accommodate
the demands of the actor's education. He also made two cameo appearances
in Doctor Who, first in the 2008 season finale, The Stolen Earth / Journey's
End, and then in David Tennant's swansong as the Tenth Doctor,
The End Of Time, on New
Year's Day 2010.
In 2012, Knight made his film debut in the horror movie Stitches.
The same year, he joined the cast of Waterloo Road; he remained
on the show until 2015, during which time he was also a murder victim on
Glue. Knight next had a regular role in Victoria, starring
former Doctor Who companion Jenna Coleman, and appeared in the
2017 comedy film The Hippopotamus. During the COVID-19 pandemic
in 2020, he reprised Luke Smith for Farewell, Sarah Jane, a coda
to The Sarah Jane Adventures which was released online to
commemorate the ninth anniversary of series star Elisabeth Sladen's
death.
